A few years ago, INSAMETAL was approached to take part in a unique project addressing a very common issue in many towns: the constant noise caused by trains passing through residential areas.
It was a small town crossed by a railway line. For years, residents had lived with a daily noise level far beyond what’s acceptable. The constant rumble of trains didn’t just affect their sleep — more serious effects began to emerge: chronic insomnia, irritability, lack of concentration in schools, and a general rise in stress. An entire community was seeing its quality of life decline.
When we received that call, we understood it wasn’t just about meeting regulations. The goal was more ambitious: to provide a solution that was truly effective, sustainable, and long-lasting. It was about protecting those people, their rest, and their health.
🔧 A tailored acoustic solution for the environment
Our technical team designed and installed a noise barrier fully tailored to the characteristics of the environment. The solution had to be effective not only in sound reduction but also in visual impact, sustainability, and durability. This is how we defined the main pillars of the project:
- High-strength metal structure, designed to withstand environmental conditions for decades without losing stability or effectiveness.
- High-performance sound-absorbing panels, capable of reducing railway noise by more than 25 dB. Choosing the right type of panel was key to absorbing sound rather than reflecting it.
- Recyclable and low environmental impact materials, aligned with our commitment to sustainability and the circular economy.
- Optimized installation, which allowed the work to be completed in the shortest possible time with minimal disruption to residents and railway traffic.

Subsequent measurements confirmed a significant reduction in noise levels, exceeding 25 decibels. But the most important thing was not the technical data, but the human impact. We received a testimony from a resident that deeply touched us:
